Support the arts! What we can do.

At Orbit Oregon, we shop at the Blick store in the Portland, Oregon’s Pearl District for pastel crayons, construction paper, fine art papers, felt pens, and just about any other type of art materials you can imagine. After all, you can create eclipse art from just about anything! As a Blick customer, we received a letter from the company’s CEO, Bob Buchsbaum, that we would like to share with you.

We would like to point out that, like Mr. Buchsbaum, Orbit Oregon is resolutely nonpolitical. However, we are concerned about proposed cuts to arts funding that will impact non-profit arts groups that provide after-school art education for low-income students, and programs such as the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

To make your voice heard and help protect this funding for the arts, please consider sending a message to your elected representatives through the Americans for the Arts Action Fund arts mobilization center, or join the Arts Action Fund today – it is free to join and members can vote on legislative policy platforms.

To quote Mr. Buchsbaum, “The arts play an under-appreciated role  in our economy and in developing in students the creativity needed for many highly skilled jobs.” We agree! #savethenea
